The Leading Edge Group has been working with the Irish IIE since 2001. The Irish IIE is a chapter of the American Institute of Industrial Engineers and is an independent national body recognized by the Irish government as an educational certification organization. Established in 1955, the IIE is the professional and qualifying body for those involved in industrial engineering.
The IIE recognized that its members are concerned with the development, improvement, implementation, and evaluation of integrated systems of people, money, knowledge, information, equipment, energy, material, and processes. In Lean manufacturing systems, industrial engineers work to eliminate wastes of time, money, materials, energy, and other resources. The Leading Edge Group took up the challenge to develop a manufacturing Lean Green Belt qualification to meet these needs in 2001.
